News
from the City of Lake Forest
Update
4/08: The Planning commission unanimously approved the recommendation
to rezone to allow the Opportunities Study to move
forward. The formal approval will be before the City
Council on Tuesday, June 3rd at the regular Council
meeting. This would be an important meeting to
attend and show support for the Study and the need for new
fields!!
January
2008: Portions of the Draft Program Environmental Impact Report
(Draft PEIR) are currently being re-circulated for public review
and comment. The re-circulated Draft PEIR considers the climate
change impacts of the potential project and updates certain
sections of the Draft PEIR based on recent legislation and case
law. Additionally, the re-circulated Draft PEIR analyzes a new
alternative land use scenario which involves fewer homes and
more public facilities as compared to the Proposed Project
analyzed in the original 2006 Draft PEIR. Click

Send
them a message - the City took ownership of Tamarisk park to
develop the baseball field there, but then pushed it to the back
burner - 4 years out. We currently have 14 teams sharing
one field - we need at least one more field for the older kids
(ages 15-18). Voice your opinion now-develop Tamarisk
now. (updated note: the city is supporting interim upgrades
to make it safe, but full improvements are still 4 years out).
There
is also undeveloped park land near Regency Park that they have
been dragging their feet on for years. Our City Council
needs to be more action oriented and decisive. Our leagues
should not have to fight for field time and our kids should not
have to play late into the night and on Sundays just to get a
game in.
The
City does not have a field big enough for 17-18 year olds at
all. The one field we have for the 13-16 year olds is not
open fully year round. Mission Viejo has at least 4 fields
for this age group, we barely have one. We have a voice,
let's use it.
Of
the six PONY teams on the field, 80% of the kids are 13 year
olds who will likely still be around next year. The league
is growing and we expect about 50% more teams next year - what
do we do then?
Let's
keep the kids off the streets and on the fields!
Build
it and they will come!

Welcome

program. High School Prep Baseball for El Toro High,
Trabuco High and other South Orange County High Schools.
Saddleback
Valley PONY is an organized PONY Baseball League located in Lake
Forest, California for ball players with the playing ages 11
through 14. Our intent is to create a positive learning
atmosphere for the growing youth of our community by improving
their skills in the game of baseball and developing strong
character traits.
WHY
PLAY PONY?
We play like the pros (Real baseball rules) * We prep you for
high school baseball * We teach you to lead-off & steal
bases * We teach pitchers pick-off moves * We use Big-Barrel
bats * We play 54’ mound to plate, 80’ between bases (Pony)
50' mound to plate, 70' between bases (Bronco)* We play with
steel cleats. Pony is all about flexibility - want to scrimmage
another league - go for it! want to enter your team in a
tournament - go for it! PONY is all about the kids.

From
the PONY Rule Book: "Flexibility is a key word in PONY
Baseball philosophy, which provides a pattern of league
operation that may be adapted to the needs of the community,
rather than asking the community to adapt to an arbitrary set of
rules and regulations."
